Every great journey starts with a single step, for us at Nextgen Youth Cricket Academy, that step felt a lot more like a celebratory leap this week.
As a newly founded academy here in Southern California, we’ve spent months talking about our vision, planning, and building a future for the sport. But this week, that vision finally got its colors. We officially unveiled the first-ever Nextgen jersey, and seeing our players’ reaction made all the hard work behind the scenes worth it.
When the jersey was finally revealed, the excitement on the kids’ faces was palpable. There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a young athlete first sees their team’s crest.
We were so honored to have Hope School Principal Louie LeMonnier join us to do the honors.

A long-time supporter of the game, Louie has been gracious enough to help us navigate the partnership with the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD). Thanks to his support, NextGen has a safe ground in the neighborhood for regular practice and match play, so we can shape our youth into tomorrow’s prominent athletes.
During the reveal, Principal Louie shared a powerful reminder with our athletes about the unique opportunity they have here in Orange County:
“Here in Orange County we don’t have that many cricket fileds around for you to go and practice when in other areas they are everywhere. But the academy and parent volunteer put so much work into creating the space for you guys, don’t take that for granted”

Built by the Community, For the Community
Principal Louie’s words hit home. In a region where cricket pitches aren’t on every corner, the existence of Nextgen Youth Cricket Academy is a testament to the tireless work of our board members and parent volunteers. Thanks to their effort and to the support of our sponsors, these young athletes can play the sport with pride.
To add to the celebration, the academy surprised the entire group, both our juniors and seniors, with free warm fleece jackets. Seeing the whole group adoring their new gear, smiling with clear pride to finally be wearing their Nextgen colors, was the highlight of the evening. It wasn’t just a giveaway; it was a token of our gratitude for the families who have joined us on day one.

Our parent volunteers proved that those small, repeated efforts—organizing, permit-hunting, and field-prepping—create something extraordinary for our children.
Now, the focus shifts from the drumrolls for the jersey to the pitch. This Saturday, the President’s Day Tournament kicks off, marking our very first competitive appearance as an academy.
Our gear is packed, our practice sessions have been intense, and our inaugural class of athletes is ready to represent Nextgen Youth Cricket Academy with pride. To the parents and volunteers who “created the space” when there wasn’t one: Thank you. This tournament belongs to you as much as it does to the players.
